Crème De Cacao is based on a 19th-century recipe in which the source of cocoa came from Venezuela and the source of vanilla from Mexico; raw cocoa is distilled and macerated with additional cocoa and crushed vanilla. The process not only gives the product a deep character, but also allows it to retain its natural colors, without adding coloring agents.
