Diplomatico Distillery was founded in 1959 in the Lara Region, in the wide and fertile countryside near the city of Barquisimeto. In the late 1990s, a group of Venezuelan entrepreneurs led by José Rafael Ballesteros, whose family already operated a major company in the industry, purchased the distillery and sugarcane production land. The Lara region, where Diplomatic Rum is produced, is one of the most valuable areas for sugarcane cultivation. The different distillation techniques used and the exceptional storage in barrels allow Diplomatic Rum to develop its extraordinary virtues. Today the dream of those pioneers to produce one of the best rums in the world is realized in 63 countries where it is exported and appreciated with great success.

It takes its name from Planas Valley, a region located in close proximity to the Diplomatico distillery in the foothills of the Andes mountain range. The area benefits from an ideal terroir and micro-climate for the production of the best rums. Planas is an elegant and rich blend, surprisingly intense for a white rum. An unexpected explosion of flavors and aromas that is balanced by the delicate roundness of this rum.

Planas is an extraordinary blend: Pot Still (50% heavy rums) and column stills and Batch Kettle (50% light and semi-heavy rums). It is aged up to 6 years and then filtered.
