In the heart of Caldaro on the Wine Road, Stephan Rohregger realized his dream in 2019, taking over the vineyard management of Prälatenhof, a small family farm, from his father Roland. This historic property is located in two distinctive areas: in Pianizza di Sotto, on moraine-limestone and gravelly soils at 440 meters above sea level, where Schiava vines (with a 90-year-old viticultural heritage!), Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon are grown; and in Corona, above Cortaccia, at 800 meters, characterized by gravelly, calcareous soils enriched by layers of clay, dedicated to Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
The special soil composition and the high altitude of the vines give Prälatenhof's wines a unique depth and intensity. The estate's first vintage dates back to 2019, but it represents the culmination of Stephan's years of experience as a winemaker at Tiefenbrunner. Together with his wife Tanja, who masterfully manages the Estate, Stephan is establishing himself as one of the new promises of South Tyrolean winemaking, producing elegant and refined wines that perfectly express the local terroir.
