Maso Lizzone represents Cantina di Riva's most structured wine, composed entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak barrels and then refined in the bottle. The name is a homage to the farm of the same name located near Dro, in a locality that gave birth to this wine in 2007.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON TRENTINO SUPERIORE DOC

Environment, vine and man have contributed in equal measure to producing this wine.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINEYARD

Seasonal trend The spring vegetative recovery was early, but the cold May led to a delay in flowering of about ten days. From then on, the course of the season was very favourable with well-distributed rainfall. From Ferragosto onwards, good temperature fluctuations and low rainfall and humidity made it possible to arrive at the harvest with very healthy bunches, with good ripeness and a good balance between sugars and acidity.

Area of origin A single vineyard in a warm, south-east facing area, where the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

Grape variety used 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Soil type Medium-textured, predominantly skeletal soil, with good clay content and a tendency to limestone.

Guyot training system.

Production 70-80 quintals of grapes per hectare.

VINIFICATION AND AGEING

Harvest The grapes were carefully selected by hand on 15 October, in small containers.

Vinification The grapes were quickly transported to the winery in ca. 200 kg crates, immediately destemmed and the whole berries were dropped into a special steel fermenter for alcoholic fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of around 25 °C with maceration on the skins for at least 12-13 days for all varieties in stainless steel tanks.

Maturation On 14 January 2020, at the end of malolactic fermentation and after a couple of racking, the wine was placed in barriques and tonneaux made of mainly French and new oak for ageing.

French and new oak for ageing. On 13 January 2021, after one year of ageing, the wine was blended. The wine was bottled on 5 February 2021, producing

3,222 bottles of 0.75 l and 50 magnums. Bottling will be followed by 24 months of bottle ageing.

ORGANOLEPTIC CHARACTERISTICS

Appearance The wine has an intense ruby red colour and good consistency.

Nose The nose offers an intense and fine interweaving of aromatic nuances: first notes of ripe red fruit and spices, then more elegant notes of vanilla, cocoa butter, sweet chocolate and coffee, and finally a fairly decisive mineral note.

Taste On the palate, the wine fills the mouth with intensity, balance and harmony of its soft and hard components. It is notable for the persistence with which it releases its aromas and especially the mineral note perceived on the nose. To evolve, but splendid even in the immediate future.
