DESCRIPTION OF THE CHAMPAGNE 1ER CRU CATTIER

The Champagne Brut Premier Cru Cattier is the real calling card of the House, the cuvée that best expresses the style and allure. It is a classic blend of the three main Champagne grape varieties: Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The grapes come from a selection of the best plots cultivated in different parts of the estate. A wealth of terroir, which each year allows us to count on a wide choice, to create a balanced cuvée, capable of guaranteeing expressive continuity over time.  It is a label with a fragrant, fruity and floral profile, characterised by soft and generous aromas, always well balanced by freshness. It is a perfect bottle to enjoy as an aperitif or with seafood hors d'oeuvres.

The Brut Premier Cru Cattier is a Champagne made in the Montagne de Reims area by a Maison with centuries of experience in making great Champagnes. The Premier Cru cuvée represents the classic expression of the Champagne terroir, with a blend composed of a majority percentage of Meunier (60%), complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in equal parts. The three grape varieties are vinified separately, and after several months of ageing, the vintage vins clairs are blended using 40% reserve wines, in order to recreate each year the typical taste of the Maison, regardless of the weather conditions of the vintage. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle according to the Champenoise Method, with a minimum period of 4 years of ageing on the lees in the historic underground caves of Rilly-la-Montagne.

The Premier Cru of Cattier is a Brut Champagne smooth and immediately pleasant, which wins for its elegance and fragrance of taste. In the glass it has a brilliant straw yellow colour, with a fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet seduces with scents of white flowers, citrus fruits, aromas of ripe fruit, nuances of bread crust and small pastries. The palate is lively and agile, with a pleasant aromatic facet, anticipating a fresh and savoury finish. Champagne in its most traditional version.

Colour Pale golden with fine, long perlage

Nose Notes of honey, acacia flowers, plum, wild berries, dried fruit, citrus fruits and hints of minerals and pastries

Taste Creamy, elegant, generous, rich and intense, with excellent mineral freshness

Cattier

A great and historic Maison of the Montagne de Reims

Cattier is a family Maison based in Chigny Les Roses, near Ludes, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims territory. Its origins go back as far as 1625, when the ancestors of the Cattier family were already involved in viticulture. Today, Alexandre Cattier is at the helm of the company, representing the thirteenth generation of vigneron, who passionately carries on the ancient traditions, with the aim of handing down a precious heritage of experience and savoir faire. The history of the Maison is encapsulated in the caves of Rilly-la-Montagne, dug 150 years ago on three levels, descending to a depth of 30 metres. The galleries can hold over two million bottles, which are aged in ideal conditions of temperature and humidity.

The Domaine Cattier consists of 33 hectares, all classified as Premier Cru, located in the communal territories of Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes and Rilly-la-Montagne. The vineyards represent the true heritage of the Maison and since the 1990s they have been managed with increasing attention to the environment, trying to limit treatments to a minimum. This approach has led to the Haute Valeur Environnementale and Viticulture durable de Champagne certifications. Within the estate, the Clos du Moulin vineyards stand out, a parcel of just over 2 hectares, half planted with Chardonnay and half with Pinot Noir, which was purchased in the 1950s. The extraordinary quality of the grapes immediately prompted the Maison to make a separate wine in order to create a special label, which is still the jewel in the Maison's crown today.

The spirit of the Maison is today interpreted to perfection by Alexandre Cattier, who, after studying oenology at the University of Reims and working in Australia, began to learn from his father the secrets of the art of blending, in order to guarantee the continuity of the Cattier style. The House works with the three classic Champagne grape varieties: Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Noir, but the latter plays a particularly important role in the creation of the cuvées, which perfectly reflect the vocation of the Montagne de Reims terroir. The skilful use of reserve wines and a minimum ageing period of 4 years on the lees give Champagnes that skilfully combine elegance, freshness and complexity.
