Diplomático Distillery was founded in 1959 in the Lara Region, in the wide and fertile countryside near the city of Barquisimeto. In the late 1990s a group of Venezuelan entrepreneurs led by José Rafael Ballesteros, whose family already operated a major company in the sector, purchased the distillery and sugarcane production land. The Lara region, where Rum Diplomático is produced, is one of the most valuable areas for sugarcane cultivation. The different distillation techniques used and the exceptional storage in barrels allow Rum Diplomático to develop its extraordinary virtues. Today the dream of those pioneers to produce one of the best rums in the world is realized in 63 countries where it is exported and appreciated with great success. Reserva Exclusiva is an elegant and complex tasting rum. Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is an elegant and complex tasting rum, carefully produced from the purest sugar cane honeys and molasses in smaller proportions. It is gently distilled in ancient copper pot-still stills for the heavy rums and in column and Batch Kettle stills for the remaining 20 percent light and semi-heavy rums. It is aged in small oak barrels for up to 12 years.
