Founded by royal decree on September 10, 1756, Real Companhia Velha is Portugal's oldest and most emblematic winery with its 260-year history serving the Douro. Quinta das Carvalhas, which belongs to the Companhia, is the most spectacular property in the Douro Valley enjoying a magnificent prominent position on the left bank of the river, in Pinhao. Its oldest vineyards, nearly 100 years old, are an incredible treasure representing some of the oldest native grape varieties found in the Douro Valley.
The Ports selected for the Tawny 20 YO blend are fermented in traditional stone "lagars" where the grapes are crushed with the feet. This allows for an important extraction that enhances power and structure.
